08/31/06 - The University of Florida, a bastion of academic excellence, is
the site of a rather embarrassing blunder. Apparently proofreaders for
both the University and Pepsi didn't notice that the Roman numerals
printed on this year's T-shirts to be given away to student football ticket
holders didn't equate to "2006" (MMVI) as they were supposed to, but "26"
(XXVI).
About 21,000 shirts were printed, and 4,000 or so distributed, before the
error was noticed and the giveaway halted.
Kelly McAndrew of the Pepsi Bottling Group said simply, "We regret that
the error was made."
Now, what to do with 17,000 misprinted t-shirts?
