05/15/07 -WE'RE NUMBER ONE!  Not that it's anything to be proud
about, but for the second year in a row AutoVantage's annual driver
survey has ranked Miami drivers the rudest in the nation.  Miami beat
our runners-up New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC
for the honor.

What makes Florida, and Miami in particular, such a leader in road
rage can be traced in part to the apparent disregard for authority in the
Sunshine State.  About 1.8 million of the state's 15.4 million licensed
drivers have suspended or revoked licenses. Of that number, officials
estimate about 800,000 refuse to get off the road.

Another factor:  many of the drivers in South Florida aren't native to the
area, and they learned to drive somewhere else.  Often, that
somewhere was a third world country, with third world driving
regulations (or lack thereof) and customs.

Add to the mix:  a higher proportion of elderly drivers than anywhere
on the planet.  These drivers tend to drive a bit slower than average,
which doesn't sit well with the high number of aggressive Latino
drivers.

When you bring all of those different driving habits together in one
place, you get the ingredients to make, and keep, Miami at the top
spot.

Be careful out there.
