Since 1988 the Florida Lottery has provided a legal outlet for the gaming impulses of Florida
residents and visitors alike. Although the various lottery games have changed over the years (and
continue to change), the basic goal of the lottery -- to provide money for public education in Florida --
hasn't changed. Over $15 billion has been raised by the lottery since its inception, with the average
now running about $1 billion a year.
